Town Services

The Town of St. Marys offers a full range of services to its residents, businesses and visitors. Council places a high priority on building a “complete and healthy community” and as a result provides a host of active and passive recreation opportunities. From swimming to skating, tennis to t-ball, hiking trails to picnics, St. Marys offers many activities to the young and the young at heart. We take a leading role in raising our children, keep our seniors active and safeguarding our community. As a separated Town, St. Marys’ complement of services is more complete than many municipalities in Ontario. Our team ensures that your garbage and recyclables are managed, basic services (water and waste water) are maintained and your public spaces kept clean.

The beautiful Thames River winds its way through 30 hectares of scenic trails, parkland and country roads, setting the stage for a truly memorable visit. Enjoy the small town experience of visiting our one-of-a kind cafés, antique shops and countryside inns. Explore the unique limestone architecture or refresh with a beverage at an old fashioned ice cream parlour. You can experience the flavour of the local heritage at the St. Marys Museum or Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, or take in one of the many festivals and events the town hosts each year.

Free guided walking trails are offered during the summer. Mid-November through December enjoy free horse-drawn wagon rides around Milt Dunnell Field to experience the magic of the winter holiday light display.

Home to approximately 7,000 residents, St. Marys services a commuter shed of more than 1.6 million people and a labour force of almost 1 million. This labour force is highly skilled and will be continually fuelled by the graduates of Ontario’s premier post-secondary education facilities located in close proximity to St. Marys (University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, Wilfrid Laurier University, Fanshawe College and Conestoga College).

Council, while committed to building a balanced and creative community, is also working with Town staff and the business community to aggressively seek new investment that meets the needs and growth objectives of the Town. The Town of St. Marys offers a strong and diverse economic base and is well positioned to accommodate increased levels of industrial and commercial investment all within a location that balances work with an affordable and unique lifestyle.

Town Hall

The historic Town Hall, built in 1891, is the heart of St. Marys’ municipal and administrative operations. This portion of the site offers resources related to St. Marys’ Mayor, Council and Sub Committees that help guide the Town’s operations. Information on the Clerks Office and Finance Department is also available as the lead for valuable information of municipal meeting agendas, minutes and reports, as well as, municipal Bylaws and budgets.

Funding is now available for 2013 under the Façade Improvement Grant Program and the Designated Heritage Property Grant Program. As part of the Community Improvement Plan, the Façade Improvement Program provides funding to owners and tenants of property located in the Community Improvement Area for façade improvements. The Designated Heritage Grant Program provides funding to individual properties designated under Part IV the Ontario Heritage Act and located in the Central Commercial District. Funding under both of these programs is available on a first come, first served basis. Since 2008 approximately 19 projects have benefited from the Façade Improvement Program and three projects have benefitted from the Designated Heritage Property Grant Program.
