The Volunteer Firefighters’ scrap metal pick-up and the St. Marys Kinsmen Club electronic waste pick-up are both taking place this weekend. Scrap metal collection will begin on Friday, April 26th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the South East end of St. Marys (James St. South, Southvale Rd, Maxwell St., Huron St., Elizabeth St. East, Elgin St. East, Jones St East. and Queen St. East) and continue through the rest of St. Marys on Saturday, April 27th. Firefighters’ waste pickup Saturday, April 27 and more
Earth Week is April 21 to 27 and there are many opportunities for residents to reduce waste and keep St. Marys tidy.The biennial Volunteer Firefighters’ scrap metal pick-up is Saturday, April 27, as a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy. Residents are asked to have their items at the curb no later than 7 a.m.; items placed out after the initial pick-up will not be picked up.

On Wednesday, March 27, Carey Pope, owner of the Pass It On Store, presented a cheque for $500 to the Youth Centre. The donation will be used to purchase much needed physical equipment such as pop-up hockey nets, goalie pads and helmets.
Since 2004, one of the mandates of the Pass It On Store has been to support youth programs in the local community. “This is a perfect fit for us,” Pope says.
