In light of the extreme cold weather, the Town of St. Marys is sharing an update on the services available for individuals who are experiencing homelessness this winter.
Community Outreach Worker
The Town’s full-time Community Outreach Worker, Brittany Petrie, is in regular contact with individuals experiencing homelessness in St Marys. A Registered Social Worker, Brittany offers facilitation, education, and referrals for those who require socio-economic support.

Please be advised that a temporary traffic light is currently in place on the south side of the intersection of Wellington St. S and Queen St. E.
The permanent signal light and pedestrian signal post were damaged during an accident in November 2023. Replacement posts have been ordered and are expected to be installed in May 2024.

$144,000 grant will fund the installation of a new HVAC system
On Tuesday, MPP Matthew Rae met with the team at the St. Mary Friendship Centre to officially congratulate the Town on receiving a $144,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) this fall. The grant will be used to replace the building’s aging heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, and will be completed in 2024.

The Town of St. Marys is addressing the housing crisis head on with a new action plan. Called “Opening Doors,” the plan was developed by a housing expert, following consultations with developers, builders, and community members.
The plan aims to tackle St. Marys’ shortage of affordable housing options. Like many Canadian communities, the Stonetown has very few rental options available. When vacancies do arise, rents are often higher than what the average earner can afford.

Closure expected to last until May 2024
St. Marys Town Hall is getting a makeover. The iconic limestone building will be closed to the public as of November 13, 2023, to accommodate renovations to its first floor.
The work will include a full remodel of the space. Council Chambers will be expanded and the technology in the room will be upgraded. New washroom facilities will be added, including one that is barrier free.
