Gibson Merkel named Firefighter of the Month for February

The St. Marys Fire Department is pleased to announce Gibson Merkel as “Firefighter of the Month” for February.

Gibson started with the department in 2019 as a co-op student and was hired as a firefighter in 2022.

Please note that Church St. N will be closed from Queen St. E to Station St. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. due to the delivery of structural materials to Town Hall.

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Edwards retires after 23 years

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Edwards has retired after serving on the St. Marys Fire Department for 23 years.

Kevin joined the department as a firefighter in January 2001. From the start, he displayed a keen interest in rising through the ranks of the fire officer program. He was promoted to Captain in 2014 and became Deputy Fire Chief in 2022. During his career, Kevin responded to an estimated 2,200 emergencies. He is a recipient of the 20-year Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal.

The St. Marys Service Ontario office will be closed on Friday, February 2, 2024. It will reopen for regular hours on Monday, February 5, 2024.
