Town implements pedestrian-activated walk signals as a result of downtown intersection study

Pedestrians in St. Marys must now press crosswalk buttons to activate downtown walking signals. The change comes as a result of a downtown traffic analysis study completed in June. The Town commissioned the study to verify the optimal timing and operation of the traffic signals installed in 2016 during the downtown reconstruction.

With intersecting arterial and collector roads, higher numbers of pedestrians and decreased sightlines due to building spacing, the downtown is the most traffic-heavy area...

Matthew Corbett to start in new role on July 24 

The St. Marys Public Library has a new Chief Executive Officer. On Thursday, July 6 the Library Board announced the appointment of Matthew Corbett as CEO of Library Services. Corbett’s new role with the Library will commence on Monday, July 24.

Corbett is currently a Branch Librarian at the Tay Township Public Library. He holds a master’s degree in Library Information Services from Western University and a teaching degree from Laurentian University....

The Town of St. Marys (Town) and R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Consultant) have prepared an Individual Environmental Assessment (EA) under the Environmental Assessment Act for the identification and selection of a preferred solid waste disposal option. The Town has reviewed options to manage solid waste over the next 40 years. The preferred alternative is to expand the existing landfill at 1221 Water Street South. Water levels to be lowered at Rice Lake for Wellington Street bridge project

Disruption
Rice Lake water levels will be lowered for the Wellington Street bridge project. Until further notice, the public should refrain from using boats, kayaks and canoes near the dam.

Temporary parking for West Ward (Watt) Park during Warner and Jones Street Reconstruction

DisruptionJones St. will be closed from Warner St. to Salina St. and Warner St. will be closed from Queen St. to Elgin St.

Those wishing to visit West Ward Park must park on Salina St. S. and Jones St. W. east of the construction zone. Please walk along the north side of the road on Jones St. to access the park.
