Town notified of tentative agreement between VIA Rail and UNIFOR

On Friday, June 10, the Town of St. Marys was notified by VIA Rail Canada of a potential strike by UNIFOR, the union that represents 1,800 of 2,500 of VIA’s employees who work in stations, telephone sales offices, maintenance centres and administrative offices. 

Yesterday, VIA announced that it had reached a tentative agreement with the union and that all trains and services will continue to operate as normal, without interruption.

Prolonged warm and dry conditions prompt Town call for conservation  

The Town of St. Marys is asking residents to conserve water and refrain from external water use, due to prolonged warm and dry conditions. 

The Public Works Department would like to remind residents of regular external water use restrictions in effect from May 1 to September 30 each year. Residents should only use external water in the morning between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m., and the evening from 6:00 to 9:00...

Update: West Ward Wildlife sightings update

Please be aware when walking individually, or with pets, that there have been sightings of wildlife including "coyotes", "foxes" and "wolves" in the region of the West Ward in areas near wood lots and farmers' fields.

Please remain alert when walking.

Water Street to Thomas Street Construction begins July 11

Beginning July 11, construction will occur between Water Street and Thomas Street. The project will take approximately six weeks and will include:

  • Replacement of water services
  • Replacement of sidewalk
  • New asphalt
  • Repairs and improvements to the Victoria Bridge

During this phase of construction, no vehicles will be allowed access to the section of Queen Street between Water and Thomas Streets. Queen Street access to the M&M Variety parking lot will also be closed.
