Fire Chief urges drivers to pull over for emergency vehicles

Town of St. Marys Fire Chief Richard Anderson is reminding local and area drivers to heed the law and Driver’s Handbook when reacting to approaching emergency vehicles.

“When responding to recent calls, I have noticed some drivers not pulling over or getting nervous and stopping right in the middle of the street,” said Chief Anderson. “These actions delay emergency vehicles and increase the danger of collision for both drivers and emergency responders.”

St. Marys Town Council votes on alternative policing options

Following a public meeting on January 10, Town Council voted in favour of seeking approval from the Ontario Civilian Police Commission to bring the Stratford Police Service to St. Marys. The decision was based on the findings of a review of alternative policing options undertaken by the Town in 2016.

Town Council makes decision on Hall of Fame funding request

At a special meeting on Wednesday, December 21, members of Town of St. Marys Council voted to deny a request for funding from the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum (CBHFM). The organization was seeking a grant from the Town to support a 6.2 million dollar expansion of its current site into a museum campus.

Town Council holds meetings to discuss 2017 municipal budget

On Tuesday, December 13, members of Town of St. Marys Council held a special meeting to discuss the 2017 draft municipal budget. The meeting was the first in a series of four, with the remaining sessions scheduled for January 2017.

Town of St. Marys Council will be holding special meetings on the following dates to review the 2017 Municipal Budget:

Dates: Tuesday, December 13, 2016; Tuesday, January 10, 2017; Tuesday, January 17, 2017; and Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Time: 9:00 a.m., with the exception of January 31, which is at 6:00 p.m.
