New category will celebrate Canada 150
The St. Marys Public Library is inviting writers of all ages to submit poems to its James MacRae Poetry Contest in April. First run in 2013, the contest is named after the pseudonym of John James MacDonald -- a well-known local poet and Library patron who retired in St. Marys in 1875. In previous years, the contest has received hundreds of submissions from local poets of all ages.

Fire Department will hand out information on smoke alarms, fire escape plans and carbon monoxide
If you hear a knock on your door the evening of March 29 between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m., it may be one of the Town’s local firefighters with information about smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detection and home escape plans. The visits are part of the St. Marys Fire Department’s spring public education campaign.

Changes to collection made due to resource, safety and landfill concerns
On April 29 Town of St. Marys firefighters will volunteer their time to collect scrap metal in order to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy. Residents wishing to participate should place their scrap metal to the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of the pick-up. Any appliances must have refrigerant removed.

This Sesquicentennial year provides an opportunity to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
