The St. Marys Fire Department conducted water rescue training last week on the Thames River. This training simulates a water rescue that they would respond to on the Thames River.
The training included Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson and 13 firefighters. Exercises included throwing rescue ropes from shoreline to victims in the water, extracting injured patients out of the river, navigating victims from the river and transporting them up a 15 foot embankment to safety.

A 49 year old man from St. Marys was charged $360 for intentionally disabling a smoke alarm. The recent fine has prompted the St. Marys Fire Department to remind residents once again about the importance of smoke and CO alarms, and how being non-compliant with the Fire Code can cost not only in fines, but in lives.

Borrow a kayak for free from the St. Marys Public Library
Those looking to explore the pleasant waterways of St. Marys but may not own a kayak are no longer up a creek without a paddle, thanks to an innovative program offered through the St. Marys Public Library!

The Pyramid Recreation Centre pool is undergoing significant upgrades. The Aquatics Centre has been closed to the public since November 11, 2024, to accommodate renovations to the space. The project involves installing a new HVAC unit and exhaust systems to improve air quality. Repairs are also being made to any parts of the Aquatics Centre that have experienced wear and tear.
Due to unexpected construction delays and supply chain issues, the renovation work is now expected to extend the closure until July 2025.
