Stratford Police Inspector adopts kittens who survived being left at St. Marys Cemetery

Some “good mews” has come from the sad story of five kittens who were abandoned at St. Marys Cemetery in early October.

Last week, Inspector Mark Taylor of Stratford Police Services adopted the two surviving kittens from the St. Marys Veterinary Clinic, where the pair were being nurtured after a woman discovered them after hearing mewing from a trash can while walking her dog at the south end of the cemetery.

The kittens were the size of mice when they arrived at the clinic; staff bottle-fed them until they were strong enough to be adopted. The Town of St. Marys covered the cost of their care.

Taylor explains that he offered to adopt the kittens if no one else came forward; he received the call four weeks ago that the pair of black kittens would be his.

“The hard work’s all been done by staff,” says Taylor of the young additions to his family. “I give the clinic so much credit for taking care of them, as they were only two days old when they were found.”

The easygoing male and rambunctious female will be named by Taylor’s family, who already have a cat.

Unfortunately, there are no updates in the case of who abandoned the kittens. New tips are welcome at any time, however, and can be submitted by contacting Stratford Police Services at 519-271-4141. Information can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
