The St. Marys Fire Department is proud to announce Brandon Dundas as July’s Firefighter of the Month.

Dundas joined the St. Marys Fire Department in 2012 after attending the firefighting program at Lambton College. Born and raised in St. Marys, he comes from a family of firefighters.

“Firefighting is in my blood one might say,” says Dundas, “My grandfather was a firefighter, my father Brent is the Deputy Fire Chief, and my brother Justin is a Lieutenant. It is truly an honour to serve alongside my father and brother and I have been fortunate enough to learn a lot of the necessary trade skills to be a firefighter from them.”

Beyond the family connection, Dundas became a firefighter because he has “always liked helping others and wanted to help keep the community safe.”

He has also enjoyed learning about various types of rescues such as structural fire, rope rescue, water, and ice rescue. “I’m always impressed by the wealth of knowledge on this department,” he says, “and the dedication that goes into making sure we’re ready when the time comes.”

Dundas recalls the feeling of pride he had at his first fire call: “It was the first time seeing what it takes to work together and apply the training we work so hard on each week. Being a part of such a selfless group of people made me feel so proud and I’ve carried that feeling with me any time I’ve represented the department in the last 10 years.”

Dundas is married to Carly, and they have two children: a daughter Addie who is five years old, and a son Jack, who is four. Dundas works at the St. Marys Cement plant as an Assistant Control Room Operator.

Dundas was selected as Firefighter of the Month for his 10 years of loyalty and dedication.

“He takes pride in contributing to the organization’s success whether it be on the fire ground or fundraising,” says his father, Deputy Fire Chief Brent Dundas. “It has been an amazing experience to work with both of my sons and in Brandon’s case, to see him develop the skills needed to maintain the highest standards of professional excellence.”
