On Friday, February 23, two dozen exhibitors will come together to share artifacts, collections and special projects that celebrate local history. It’s all part of the St. Marys Heritage Fair, an annual event that is jointly hosted by the St. Marys Historical Society and the St. Marys Museum.
Now in its 22nd year, the Heritage Fair is a chance to catch up on developments in local history. In keeping with National Heritage Week, this year’s event is themed “Heritage Stands the Test of Time.” A number of exhibitors will be onsite to share their collections and projects that celebrate the longstanding history of our community.
The event will take place from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Pyramid Recreation Centre. There will be a presentation at 7:30 p.m. to acknowledge property owners who opened their homes to the public for the highly successful Doors Open St. Marys event in September 2017.
“Some of the participating homes had 500 people through their doors in the span of a few hours,” said Amy Cubberley, Museum Curator and Archivist. “The owners of these heritage homes were so generous in opening their doors and the Heritage Committee wants to ensure they are formally recognized for this.”
Admission to the Heritage Fair is free and all are welcome. Those planning to watch the St. Marys Lincolns take on the Komoka Kings at 7:30 p.m. are encouraged to drop by the event before the puck drops or pay a visit during intermission.
Members of local organizations with a longstanding history in the community and individuals with unique collections of historic items are welcome to be exhibitors at the Heritage Fair. Those interested should contact the Museum by Tuesday, February 20 to register.
