Flags at Town facilities at half-mast in recognition of passing of Perth South Mayor Jim Aitcheson

The Town of St. Marys is deeply saddened by the passing of Township of Perth South Mayor and Past Warden James (Jim) Aitcheson.

Jim was initially elected as a Councillor for the Downie Ward in the Township of Perth South in 2006 and was acclaimed as Mayor of Perth South in 2022. Over the course of 13 years, he served on the Perth County Council and held the position of Warden from 2019 to 2022.

"Jim Aitcheson’s dedication to public service was evident in his numerous initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of Perth South," says Mayor Al Strathdee. “Our condolences are with Jim's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

Jim served on the St. Marys and Area Mobility Service Board from 2009 to 2024 as the representative for Perth South. He held the position of Chair of the Board from 2010 to 2021. In his time with the Board of Directors, Jim was passionate about creating connections and partnerships which fortified the foundation while fueling the collective achievements in the years forward.

“The St. Marys Library Board wishes to convey its deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Mayor Jim Aitcheson and to his colleagues in Perth South,” says Dr. Cole Atlin, Chair of the St. Marys Public Library Board. “Mr. Aitcheson was devoted to supporting Perth South residents throughout his career and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

The Town of St. Marys joins the Township of Perth South community in mourning the loss of Jim Aitcheson. Flags at all Town facilities will be lowered to half-mast until the day of the funeral.
