Set your alarm bright and early for a distinctly St. Marys start to the summer season, as FM96’s popular “The Taz Show” takes over the downtown, broadcasting live from the historic Green Bridge between 5:30 and 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18 – and the entire town is invited to watch!
Water Street from Queen to Parkview will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4 to 10 a.m. to accommodate the broadcast. Public parking will also be prohibited in the area, including the alley behind the stores and services on Queen.
If you’re driving downtown to watch the broadcast, please use the public stalls along Queen and other streets to enjoy the broadcast. Milt Dunnell Field will also be available for parking.
As a thank-you to everyone in the community who participated in the Small Town March Madness contest that is bringing the FM96 broadcast to St. Marys, the town is serving a free breakfast on a first-come, first-served basis. Local industry and businesses are donating products and manpower to the breakfast.
Those coming to enjoy breakfast are asked to bring reusable dishware, mugs and cutlery to cut down on waste. The breakfast menu is a choice of pancakes with sausage, or breakfast egg wraps with yogurt on the side, plus coffee, juice and milk. There will also be a refillable water station.
“I’ve heard from many people how excited they are about this broadcast,” says Mayor Al Strathdee. “We’re hoping for a great turnout to show Taz and his co-host Jim Kelly just why St. Marys won the contest!”
The fun begins on Thursday afternoon with a polar bear dip in the world-famous St. Marys Quarry. At 3:15 p.m., watch the FM96 crew take the plunge – or you join them for a donation to the St. Marys Salvation Army Food Bank!
“Generations of residents have enjoyed cooling off in our one-of-a-kind outdoor swimming pool,” says Strathdee. “I’m challenging everyone I know to show off our ‘Stonetown stamina’ to the entire FM96 listening area by making a splash in the Quarry so early in the season!”
Taz and Jim will also be taking in other sights and sounds of St. Marys on Thursday evening – you never know where they might pop up, and who might get on air!
