New attraction will feature over 25 unique floating obstacles
Canada’s largest outdoor freshwater swimming pool will soon be the site of an exciting new feature. On Tuesday, March 10, 2020 Town Council approved an inflatable sports park for the St. Marys Quarry. The attraction will be open to swimmers as of June 20, 2020.
Dubbed the FunSplash, this floating waterpark includes 25 different obstacles designed to challenge participants in a safe, outdoor environment. The FunSplash offers thrills for children and adults alike, while promoting teamwork, problem-solving and physical activity.
“We are extremely excited to be offering this attraction at the quarry,” said Stephanie Ische, Director of Community Services for the Town of St. Marys. “The FunSplash will add a whole new dimension to the quarry experience, and we can’t wait for patrons to try it out this summer.”
The addition of the FunSplash comes on the heels of a record year for the quarry. Over 18,000 people visited the quarry in 2019, and those numbers are expected to increase significantly this summer, thanks to the new inflatable park.
“We encourage all quarry patrons to make the most of their time in St. Marys by exploring our vibrant downtown, visiting the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, or joining in the fun at one of our special events,” said Kelly Deeks-Johnson, the Town’s Tourism and Economic Development Manager.
The FunSplash is owned and operated by PT Watersports, a family-run business that has operated a similar attraction at Binbrook Conservation Area since 2018. The company saw the quarry as the ideal spot for its second location.
“St. Marys is a beautiful setting for the FunSplash. We feel that this attraction will complement the area very well and look forward to being a part of the community,” said Teresa Jackson, Marketing Director at PT Watersports.
On top of being an exciting addition to St. Marys’ summer offerings, the FunSplash will also create jobs for local youth. PT Watersports is currently hiring lifeguards and customer support specialists to ensure the attraction runs safely and smoothly. Job postings are available at www.funsplash.ca.
The FunSplash will be comprised of Wibit sports park pieces, an industry leader in developing and manufacturing safe inflatable waterparks. Patrons will be required to wear a company-provided lifejacket at all times while on the inflatables.
