The St. Marys Fire Department is honouring Jim Burlingham as Firefighter of the Month for May.
Burlingham joined the department in 2006. Born and raised in Mitchell, he recalls the firehall being a key part of his childhood.
“I would race to the firehall on my bicycle whenever I heard the siren and sneak a look at the chalkboard inside the bay doors indicating the call address,” says Burlingham.
One of the main reasons he became a firefighter was to help others. “I was able to fulfill my desire to help by interacting with the community and supporting local organizations and charities through our association fundraising,” says Burlingham.
Burlingham has seen a lot of changes at the St. Marys Firehall over the years.
“One of my most memorable experiences as a member of St. Marys Fire Department was moving the apparatus into the new fire hall on February 13, 2021,” he says, “It was an exciting day and another chapter in the history of the organization.”
Burlingham works at Cascades as a Sales Manager. He is married to Lori and they have three children: Sawyer (age 19), Jessica (age 16) and Leah (age 14).
The Fire Department selected Burlingham as Firefighter of the Month for being consistent, dependable, and accurate in fulfilling his responsibilities. “His stand-up character, positive attitude, and strong leadership qualities make him an invaluable member of the St. Marys Fire Department,” says Captain Phil West.
