This June the St. Marys Fire Department is honoring Firefighter Greg St. Clair as Firefighter of the Month.

St. Clair is a career firefighter with the City of Cambridge and has spent almost 10 years with the Baden Fire Station of the Wilmot Township Fire Department, moving up to the rank of Lieutenant. He joined the St. Marys Fire Department in 2021.

St. Clair was born and raised in Stratford. He moved to St. Marys in 2020.

“One of the main reasons I wanted to become a firefighter, was to find a job that would challenge me in different ways, while giving me the opportunity to help others daily,” says St. Clair. “I also enjoy working in a team atmosphere, and firefighting is all about working as a team to solve problems.”

St. Clair commented on what it has been like to join the department: “I have really enjoyed being welcomed into the St. Marys Fire Department team. St. Marys has a great fire hall, with very good equipment, being staffed by a group of extremely dedicated and passionate firefighters. The level of professionalism both at calls, and during training make me proud to be a part of it. The enthusiasm towards fundraising and community-oriented events is extremely high. All in all, it has been a great experience.”

According to St. Clair, he has always enjoyed the public education side of firefighting: “With COVID restrictions beginning to ease, it has been great to get out and visit schools and homes to help educate our residents on the importance of home fire safety. I know how in awe I was to see the firefighters show up at my public school with their truck. Now it’s my turn to see that look on the faces of all those kids, including my own!”

St. Clair is married to Stacey. They have two children, Ethan, aged 13, and Brinley, aged 9. St. Clair's interests and hobbies include golfing, hiking, and spending time in the backyard with his family.

Firefighter Greg St. Clair was selected as Firefighter of the Month due to his enthusiasm and commendable service to his community.

“Firefighter St. Clair is an overachiever with an outstanding work ethic. He unselfishly volunteers his time off to teach high-school Co-op students firefighter skillsets, hoping to one day see them join the fire service,” says Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson. “I am also pleased to announce that Greg will be promoted to Fire Lieutenant on August 1, 2022. He represents the best of what it means to be part of the St. Marys Fire Department.”
