On Saturday, August 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the St. Marys Quarry will once again open its gates to everyone’s four-legged best friends. The St. Marys Pooch Plunge will feature a variety of water activities for dogs of all breeds.
Pet guardians ages eighteen and older can swim with their dogs if necessary at their own risk in a portion of the swimming hole marked with buoys. The use of non-sinking toys such as balls and Frisbees will be allowed. Owners may need to coax their canines into the Quarry as participants will enter via the steps or platform (the cliff dive will be closed for the event). Bringing a doggy lifejacket is encouraged. Lifejackets will be available for human participants.
For smaller or older dogs who find the swimming quarry too challenging, there will be a sprinkler and kiddie pool on shore. The large grassed area is perfect for a game of fetch for pooches that can be trusted off-leash.
Admission is $3 per pup with proceeds benefitting the Stratford Perth Humane Society. All dogs who participate should be up-to-date on their vaccines.
“We are very excited for the 2019 Pooch Plunge - it’s a fantastic event for people and their dogs!” Kathrin Delutis, executive director, The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth, says, “We are extremely thankful to the Town of St. Marys for hosting this event in support of our animals at the Stratford Perth Humane Society.”
