Ban ensures safe and effective snow removal during winter season

The Town of St. Marys is reminding residents of its overnight winter parking ban, which will come into effect on November 1, 2023, and will remain in place until April 30, 2024. The ban prohibits on-street parking on any municipal roads and municipal parking lots between the hours of 2:00 and 6:00 a.m.

The parking ban ensures staff can safely, effectively, and efficiently clear snow from local roads, making St. Marys safer and more accessible. Vehicles are also prohibited from parking on sidewalks and boulevards. This allows staff to clear the sidewalks for pedestrians and those with mobility devices.

Downtown residents who do not have access to overnight parking during the winter months can apply for a parking permit. Permit holders are assigned a dedicated parking spot in the Water St. N, Elgin St. E, or Jones St. E parking lots. Parking permits are also available at the Opera House parking lot for certain downtown properties. Visit townofstmarys.com/parking for more information and to apply for or renew a parking permit.

Town staff will be notifying the Stratford Police Service of non-compliant vehicles. Motorists that continue to park on streets, sidewalks or boulevards will be asked to move, or could face a ticket from the police. Residents can also call the police’s non-emergency line at 519-271-4141 to report non-compliant vehicles.
