Local talents combine with landscape for a memorable July weekend
The Stonetown Heritage Festival is back and better than ever this July, with three days of fun for everyone from Friday, July 14 to Sunday, July 16.
Many traditional festival favourites are returning, including street performers, food trucks, heritage tours and children’s activities. But attendees can also expect a new focus on arts, culture and St. Marys’ impressive natural landscape.
“St. Marys has an incredible arts scene: musicians, artists, studios, a community arts group, live theatre, photographers, poets, craftspeople and more,” explains Town of St. Marys Events Coordinator Alanna Bowes. “We’re excited to showcase these many talents through this year’s Heritage Festival programming.”
These local talents will be showcased primarily on Saturday. Creative workshops will be offered along the shaded banks of the Thames River, in Milt Dunnell Field. Also, The Riverview Walkway will host an “art walk” show. Look for more information on how to participate in the coming months.
Milt Dunnell Field will also play host to live music on Saturday evening and serve as the ideal viewing location for the Rotary Fireworks once the sun sets. This beloved show will again originate from the centre of the Grand Trunk Trestle.
The festival will also begin with live music on Friday night. Headliners for both evenings will be announced soon!
“In addition to showcasing our natural landscape and arts scene, the festival will highlight our historic downtown and our heritage,” says Bowes. On Saturday, the downtown will feature a kids’ zone, vendors, shopping and community tents promoting non-profit initiatives. Heritage fans can also hop on an air-conditioned bus for a 45-minute tour of heritage sites. New this year is a “sneak peek” of select locations that will be part of the popular Doors Open tour in September.
Look for more exciting announcements on this St. Marys summertime staple as the festival approaches, and be sure to visit www.discoverstmarys.ca/festival for the full festival schedule and application forms for food trucks, vendors and the community tent.
In the meantime, sponsors and volunteers are needed to make this community event a success. For details, please contact Events Coordinator Alanna Bowes at 519-284-2340, ext. 249 or abowes@town.stmarys.on.ca.
