The Volunteer Firefighters’ scrap metal pick-up and the St. Marys Kinsmen Club electronic waste pick-up are both taking place this weekend. Scrap metal collection will begin on Friday, April 26th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the South East end of St. Marys (James St. South, Southvale Rd, Maxwell St., Huron St., Elizabeth St. East, Elgin St. East, Jones St East. and Queen St. East) and continue through the rest of St. Marys on Saturday, April 27th. Scrap metal should be out in the South East end by Friday at 6:00 p.m. and the rest of St. Marys by Saturday at 7:00 a.m. and electronic waste should be out no later than 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The Town would like to remind residents that these pick-ups are fundraisers for Muscular Dystrophy and Cystic Fibrosis, so please be respectful of the donations being made and leave them alone to be picked up by the firefighters and Kinsmen. It should also be noted that section 2.4 (g) of municipal by-law 71 of 2012 states: “No person, other than the householder or designate, shall pick over, interfere with, disturb, remove or scatter any refuse that has been set out for collection or special collection programs…” Contravention of the by-law makes you liable for a fine of not more than $5,000 for a first offence.

The Town would like to thank the Volunteer Firefighters, the St. Marys Kinsmen Club and all residents who are taking part in Earth Week initiatives this week.
