If St. Marys felt extra safe on Wednesday, October 27, it was for good reason: there were two Fire Chiefs on the job!
St. Marys Fire Department Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson welcomed a new co-worker for the day, six year old Finn Reid. Finn was the winner of this year’s Fire Prevention Week colouring contest.
Finn was awarded with a “Fire Chief Experience" where he received a tour of the new fire hall, tried on bunker gear, took a ride in a pumper fire truck, visited with Perth County Paramedics and assisted Chief Anderson at the station. Finn also had the opportunity to speak with his fellow firefighters to learn all about what it takes to keep our community safe.
Following his busy tour and activities Finn was introduced to all the fire officers and firefighters as the new Fire Chief. He was presented with a “Fire Chief for a Day” certificate, a white fire chief helmet and a swag bag full of fire prevention and education items.
“It was wonderful to share all about firefighting with Finn.” said Chief Anderson, “We hope to be able to invite more residents into the fire hall as it becomes safer to do so. Being able to teach children about fire safety in such a fun and interactive way can be very impactful and help save lives.”
