Funds used to purchase lifesaving rescue equipment
The St. Marys Fire Department has a brand new tool that could make the difference between life and death during an emergency. It’s all thanks to a $2,500 donation from Cascades, which was presented to Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson on Thursday, February 13, 2020.
The funds from Cascades were used to purchase a high-rise pack, a piece of equipment designed to assist fire fighters when responding to calls at industrial facilities and apartment buildings. The pack can be carried by hand or worn like a backpack, and includes two lengths of hose, a streamline nozzle, spanners, wye-gate, reducer and a length of rope. The hose from the pack can be attached directly into a building’s standpipe connection, saving crucial time and effort for fire fighters, especially during calls to industrial buildings.
“The machine placement in these massive facilities can make it difficult and time consuming to get our hoses to the right place when they’re attached to our fire apparatus. Plus, the hose and nozzles that are on these buildings’ standpipe stations only meet the minimum standard,” said Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson. “This high-rise pack provide us with the proper equipment to address industrial fires efficiently and effectively.”
“The high-rise pack is an incredibly valuable tool that will help us serve our community better,” added Deputy Fire Chief Brent Dundas. “We truly appreciate this generous donation from Cascades.”
The Fire Department accepts any donation from individuals or organizations, no matter the amount. Funds can be sent to the Fire Department at PO Box 998, 172 James St. S, St. Marys, ON N4X 1B6 or by contacting Fire Chief Richard “Andy” Anderson at 519-274-2340, ext. 201.
