Fire permits will also be available to purchase at the event
The Town of St. Marys Fire Department annual breakfast is back! Each year the firefighters volunteer their time to cook breakfast for the community in order to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy, local sports and other local charities. In previous years, the Fire Department has seen over a thousand citizens attend.
This year’s event will take place on May 7 at the Fire Hall, 172 James Street North, between
8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The cost for breakfast will be $8 per adult or $5 per child age five to twelve. Children under age five will be able to eat for free. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, potatoes, milk, toast, juice, coffee and tea.
The St. Marys Fire Department will also have a table at the event where residents will be able to purchase Open Air Burning Permits for $25. By-Law Number 17 of 2012 stipulates that a permit is required for any open fires within the Town of St. Marys.
In a report to Town Council on April 25, Fire Chief Richard Anderson outlined the logistics behind organizing the breakfast. Last year the firefighters purchased 250 pounds of sausages, 375 pounds of bacon, 300 dozen eggs, six five-gallon pails of scrambled eggs and 100 loaves of bread.
“We’re looking forward to ‘flipping some fun’ at this year’s breakfast to raise much needed funds for some very deserving charities,” said Chief Anderson. “The Fire Department appreciates everyone’s support as we raise money for a great cause. We also hope residents who still need fire permits will take the opportunity to get them after enjoying a delicious meal.”
