It’s time! The St. Marys Museum’s 2016 - 2017 seminar series resumes on Thursday, February 16 following the holiday break. Time, the devices that have measured it and the way it has been interpreted through the centuries will be the topic of the presentation.

The seminar will be led by Reed Needles, a long-time clock collector and member of the St. Marys Station Studios and Gallery. Needles operates an antique spinning wheel repair shop at the St. Marys VIA Rail Station, where he also keeps a number of antique clocks.

Needles’ seminar will trace the history of timekeeping from simple sundials to systems of gear wheels, weights and pendulums as clock-making grew in complexity. He will also discuss some of the clocks in the St. Marys Museum’s collection, explain their history and demonstrate how their original owners would have maintained them to keep them accurate.

The seminar will run from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the St. Marys Museum (177 Church Street South). For accessible parking, take the lane from Tracy Street on the east side of Cadzow Park. The cost is $12 ($10 for museum members). Space is limited and pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 519-284-3556 or email museum@town.stmarys.on.ca.
