Quarry Kick-off Party now on Saturday, June 30

Those who missed FM96’s May polar dip will be able to make their own splash in the St. Marys Quarry on June 16 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., when the popular outdoor swimming pool opens to the public for weekend hours.

Weekend-only hours will continue until Friday, June 29, when the facility begins its daily operation from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Town will mark the official opening with a Toonie Swimming Day from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., applicable at both the Quarry and the Pyramid Recreation Centre Aquatics Centre.

The annual Quarry Kick-off Party will now take place on Saturday, June 30. The event will feature free swimming from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. sponsored by Tim Hortons, as well as a DJ, games and prizes. The Sunset Shack will also be on-site during the event selling delicious food.

Other upcoming Quarry events include “swim-to-survive” and “water-rescue” activities taking place during Drowning Prevention Week (July 15 to 21). The Town has also moved the September 1st Pooch Plunge in partnership with the Stratford-Perth Humane Society to the Quarry this year.

A variety of programs will return to the facility in July and August, some with additional times or drop-in options. London SUP will lead stand-up paddleboarding lessons and fitness classes. Due to popular demand, water running classes are now more frequent, taking place Monday through Thursday from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m. The Town will also offer drop-in swimming lessons for Levels 5 to 10 on weekdays at the Quarry from 11:15 a.m. to 12 noon. Even more learning opportunities will be available with advanced aquatics courses and summer camps (Kitchen Camp and Tennis Camp) featuring swimming at the Quarry.

New this year is the Junior Lifeguard Club, recommended for youth ages eight to 15 who have passed the Quarry swim test. Funded through the Stratford Perth Community Foundation, this program is free for participants. The Junior Lifeguard Club will meet 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. for three Monday to Friday sessions in July. Pre-registration is required.
