Like it or not, autumn is coming - on Monday, July 23, crews began painting the ice on the Blue Rink in the Pyramid Recreation Centre. The Town also published an online preview of its Fall & Winter Recreation & Leisure Program Guide at www.townofstmarys.com/townguide. The online version is now displayed with a page-turning software that simulates a book. Print copies will be available at most municipal facilities by the end of the month.

The guide features a number of new and returning municipal recreation and leisure programs. It also includes a “Community Directory” featuring local activity groups and organizations, as well as a list of upcoming festivals and events.

Back by popular demand, adult Zumba will run on Tuesdays from October 9 to December 18.
Extended adult skating times also return on September 5. They will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. on most Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Older adults won’t want to miss the Friendship Centre’s popular drop-in and registered programs. Painting and card making classes are available for creative-types. The Friendship Centre Travel Club will also visit destinations such as Fallsview Casino and the Victoria Playhouse.

The Aquatics Centre will be closed for annual maintenance from September 4 to 16. When it re-opens, there will be additional Aquafit times at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Starting October 6, the Town will also offer toonie swimming on the first Saturday of the month.

The Aquatics Centre and Youth Centre are teaming up to provide great options for the younger set. “Splash ‘n’ Kick, Catch a Flick” is now called “Splash Fun Fridays.” In addition to the usual swimming, movie and meal it will include exciting games to keep kids active. Youth Centre members will be able to swim for $2 every Friday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Finally, the Junior Lifeguard Club, free thanks to the Stratford Perth Community Foundation, will move indoors for the colder months.
