On Tuesday, December 13, members of Town of St. Marys Council held a special meeting to discuss the 2017 draft municipal budget. The meeting was the first in a series of four, with the remaining sessions scheduled for January 2017.

A number of capital items were pre-approved by Council during the meeting, including new equipment purchases as well as upgrades and repairs to Town roads, structures and facilities. Council’s pre-approval allows staff to move forward on these items prior to the adoption of the final budget. A detailed list of items that received pre-approval can be found in the meeting minutes, available at http://calendar.townofstmarys.com/council/Detail/2016-12-13-Budget-Committee2.

The next budget meeting is set for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Municipal Operations Centre (408 James Street South). During the meeting, Council will discuss the Town’s 15-year capital plan and review the operating budgets of each of the Town’s internal departments.

A 10-minute public input period will be held at the start of the meeting for those interested in sharing comments or asking questions about the proposed budget. The final two meetings will be held at the Municipal Operations Centre on Tuesday, January 17 at 9:00 a.m. and Tuesday, January 31 at 6:00 p.m. A public open house will be scheduled after the draft budget has been approved by Council.

A full version of the 2017 draft budget can be found at townofstmarys.com/budget. A print version is available for viewing at the Municipal Operations Centre.
