The Town of St. Marys is providing an update on the Pyramid Recreation Centre splash pad.
As recommended by Council, the splash pad will be decommissioned. The decommissioning process will begin on April 16, with crews on site to remove the existing structure.
In the summer of 2024, the Town consulted with Open Space Solutions, who originally installed the splash pad in 2008, to conduct an assessment and provide recommendations for future actions. The evaluation revealed that substantial upgrades would be necessary to restore the splash pad to its original condition, as it has reached the end of its useful life.
Also in 2024, Monteith Brown consultants developed a Recreation and Leisure Master Plan for St. Marys. The plan aims to guide recreation decisions and investment for the next 10-15 years to meet residents' needs. Based on best practices, research and user data, it was determined that the Rotary splash pad at Cadzow Park was sufficient for a community the size of St. Marys.
These assessment findings, recommendations and associated costs were presented to Council during the 2025 budget deliberations on October 15, 2024.Council made the recommendation that the Pyramid Recreation Centre splash pad be decommissioned due to high maintenance costs and access to the Rotary splash pad at Cadzow Park.
“We know residents have enjoyed the splash pad for many years, and this decision was difficult,” says Stephanie Ische, Director of Community Services. “Using the recently updated Recreation and Master Plan as our guide, we continue to prioritize high-quality recreational activities that will better serve the community in the long run.”
Residents can continue to enjoy the Rotary splash pad, located at Cadzow Park.
