Town making upgrades to local dog park

The St. Marys Dog Park is getting a good grooming. The popular public space has been closed since March due to COVID-19 restrictions, giving the Town an opportunity to make a number of upgrades.

The improvements include placing an additional layer of topsoil on the fenced-in area of the park. The topsoil will cover any protruding obstacles left over from when the site was used to store railway equipment and materials. The topsoil is being taken from a nearby municipal construction site, making the process efficient and cost-effective.

The fenced-in area will also be re-graded to improve drainage, prevent the pooling of water, and improve the soil and vegetation quality. These upgrades will make it possible to have a turf area within the park that is suitable for cut grass, which will reduce the number of insects that thrive in tall grass.

The Town is working with local service clubs and business to provide additional amenities at the site including a water tap for thirsty pets, lighting, seating and additional tree coverage to improve the experience of our four- and two-legged friends.

The dog park will remain closed until all of the upgrades are complete. Updates about the status of the park will be provided as they become available; watch townofstmarys.com or the Town’s Facebook page (@stmarysontario) and Twitter account (@townofstmarys) for more information.
