Service makes staying home easy, safe and social

With a long winter looming, the Town of St. Marys is reminding residents of the services available through its Community Wellness Program.

The program was launched in the spring to help people cope with the challenges of living through the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides a range of resources and services to assist those in voluntary or required isolation, including delivery of hot and frozen meals, groceries and other essentials.

The program also addresses social isolation by offering a variety of free activities that can be accessed online and by telephone. Options include fitness classes, Bingo, Knit and Chat, museum tours and more. Some programs are hosted live on the Pyramid Recreation Centre Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pyramid.centre), while others – like fitness classes – require advance registration online (www.townofstmarys.com/registeronline) or by phone (519-284-3272).

For those who prefer a more personal connection, the program also provides telephone reassurance and social connection calls. The calls are designed to connect community members with community members, and can be scheduled daily or weekly.

“We understand that staying home is hard, especially after months of isolation and restrictions,” said Jenny Mikita, Senior Services Program Coordinator. “The Community Wellness Program is here to make it easy, safe and social.”

All residents of St. Marys and Perth South who require assistance can call the Community Wellness Program at 519-284-3272 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Once the resident is registered, staff will help connect them with the appropriate community resource or enroll them in a suitable program to meet their needs.
