The Town’s Heritage Advisory Committee has partnered with a Toronto-based tech start-up on an app designed to boost tourism and build the profile of heritage landmarks in St. Marys. The app – called Driftscape – allows users to explore a number of the Stonetown’s local attractions in an engaging and interactive way.
The app highlights several heritage landmarks and attractions, and features a number of guided tours. The Downtown Culinary Tour takes users to every culinary destination in downtown St. Marys; the Hills and Valleys Culinary Tour gives visitors a complete list of dining options outside of the downtown core. A third tour option is the Town of St. Marys Heritage Plaque Tour, which takes visitors to 12 heritage plaques located throughout the Stonetown.
Beyond the guided tours, there are 15 heritage landmarks on the app that people can explore and learn about. The app is GPS based, so information about various heritage landmarks will appear depending on where you are in St. Marys.
While the app was developed with tourism in mind, it is also a useful resource for St. Marys and area residents.
“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have encouraged residents to get out and explore the many outdoor heritage landmarks in St. Marys, while practicing physical distancing” said Museum Curator, Amy Cubberley.
“Having this app is really exciting as it allows people to learn more about the history of the community without the need for a paper map or brochure,” she continued. “Everything you need to explore St. Marys is on the Driftscape app.”
The app also allows prospective visitors to explore St. Marys virtually. As the community slowly reopens its tourism amenities, those planning to make a future trip to St. Marys are encouraged to download the app to start planning their trip.
To download the app for free, visit www.driftscape.com; you can also find it by searching Driftscape on Google Play or the App store.
