Break open tickets are instant-win lottery tickets, which are made of cardboard and have perforated cover window tabs. The game is played by tearing off the cover tabs to reveal the symbols underneath. Other types of break open ticket games include seal card games and bingo event tickets.
Break-open ticket licences can last for up to 5 years. Extensions may be granted to the licence provided that:
- All the tickets authorized have been imprinted with the licence number and name of the licensee but not sold
- The licensee makes the request for the extension in writing before the licence expires
- The total licence period does not exceed five years
